The Spring Sales Are Coming!
2016/2017 Snow Sporting Trends

SIA just hit our friendly neighbors at Copper Mountain, so you know we’re prepped and ready to give you the goods for 2017. What’s coming up? Here are a couple new trends that will hit home next season:

  1. Skinny Skis
Fat skis are out – skinny is in! Due to the gradual evolution of ski shape design, many brands may not be going wider than 115 in the waist next year (in their powder line-ups).
  2. Splitboarders Rejoice! Screen Shot 2016-03-30 at 2.59.11 PMKarakorum doesn’t mess around, and recently came out with a string retention device that stiffens up your boot for sidehilling, along with a binding system that allows you to ride split, and solid boards with one pair of bindings. Cheers to the new improvements! Read more about Karakorum’s clips and bindings.
  3. Did someone just say “COMFORTABLE ski boots”?
Snowboarders always get some sort of sick satisfaction from watching skiiers walk around in their ridiculously uncomfortable shoes – but things may change in 2017. Manufacturers have been trying to work out the worst parts of the ski boot experience, by making a custom-fit shell that’s molded to your feet in about 15 minutes. Atomic’s new Hawx 130 boot is following that trend, while The Hawx Ultra shed some weight to allow for a little more freedom. Check them out.

4. Transition Lenses New lens technology is not a new thing, but brands like K2 and Dragon have embraced the integrations of Transitions technology and should have new specs to watch out for next season. While some remember to bring their extra lens on the hill, most don’t and are left blind. Stay tuned, and keep an eye out for this development.

Keep an eye out for more hot gear, and take a look at Teton Gravity’s 16-17 Gear Preview for a more visual take on what is to come. Don’t forget to book your stay at Winter Park Hotel to make your mountain weekend complete!
